Your Child’s First Visit
A Positive Start Matters.
We know a first dental visit can come with a mix of curiosity, nerves, and questions—for both you and your child.
Our goal is to make it a relaxed, positive experience that builds confidence from the very beginning.
From the moment you walk in, our team will focus on helping your child feel comfortable, safe, and even a little excited to be here.
When should I bring my child for their first visit?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a child’s first dental visit by age 1 or within 6 months of the first tooth erupting.
How to Prepare at Home
Talk About It Positively
Use simple, upbeat language like “The dentist is going to count your teeth and make sure they’re healthy!” Avoid words that might cause worry like “hurt,” “shot,” or “pain.”
Play Pretend Dentist
Before your first visit, have some fun playing dentist at home. Use a flashlight to count teeth, check for “sugar bugs” and practice opening wide and sitting still. When children know what to expect, they often feel more confident, relaxed, and ready to show off their smile at their appointment!
Choose the Right Time
Schedule your visit at a time when your child is typically well-rested and in a good mood (mornings are often best for younger kids).
Bring Comfort Items
A favorite toy or blanket can help your child feel more relaxed in a new environment.
What to Expect
A Warm Welcome
You’ll be greeted by our friendly team and have time to settle in. Kids can explore our fun, kid-focused space while parents complete any necessary paperwork.
Gentle, Kid-Friendly Care
Depending on your child’s age and comfort level, we’ll gently introduce them to the dental chair, tools, and environment. For many children, the first visit includes a simple exam, cleaning, and fluoride treatment.
At-Your-Pace Approach
We follow your child’s lead. If they’re feeling shy or unsure, that’s okay—we take things one step at a time to build trust and confidence. Some children warm up quickly, others need a few visits.
Clear Communication with Parents
Dr. Eric will walk you through everything he sees, answer your questions, and talk through any recommendations in a way that’s easy to understand. Parents are always welcome to be present during routine cleanings and most routine dental procedures.
