Cleanings and Exams

Routine cleanings are essential for good dental health. Prevention, education, and early detection are crucial for a healthy smile. We encourage six month check-ups and x-rays to find and treat problems early, so we can intervene quickly and change any habits that may be contributing.

Preventative Care

We commonly place sealants on teeth to help reduce the chance of getting a cavity. Sealants are placed on the chewing surfaces of molars to fill in the grooves to keep food from packing in the grooves and making teeth more cleansable. Fluoride varnish is also commonly placed on teeth at the end of a cleaning visit to strengthen teeth and reduce the likelihood of cavities. Fluoride is recommended but not required for our patients.

Fillings and Crowns

We have multiple options for restoring cavities in teeth so that we can best suit the patient’s needs. We offer sealants, white fillings, stainless steel molar crowns (mercury free), and white esthetic crowns in the smile zone. A beautiful, healthy smile is the #1 goal for all of our patients!

Nitrous Oxide

Commonly known as “laughing gas”, nitrous oxide is a very safe and effective tool for helping calm anxious patients. Nitrous oxide is our most common form of sedation and we use it daily to help relax and settle our patients to help them have better appointments. Nitrous oxide does not work for every patient, especially those that are very young, or those that have more severe anxiety. It can also be help patients tolerate longer treatment and reduce a gag reflex.

Anesthesia Dentistry

Some children are too young, are more anxious, have a medical condition, or have too many cavities to be able to complete the needed dental work safely while awake in our office. For these patients, we have the option to be “asleep” under general anesthesia. We work with a specialized anesthesiologist either in our office or at a hospital to provide their care. This is a wonderful option to avoid creating a lifetime of dental anxiety for your child. See our “General Anesthesia” tab under services.

Tongue-Tie Therapy

Tethered oral tissues are a hot topic in dental research and treatment has been found to lead to multiple clinical and lifestyle improvements. Dr. Eric can examine your infant or child to determine if a tongue or lip tie is present that requires intervention. He works closely with the Richmond Smile Design TOTs Clinic for treatment. The procedure is typically done in-office and often does not require sedation. For more information on their clinic, visit https://www.richmondsmiledesign.com/tongue-tie/tots-clinic/
